Trailer crushes motorcyclist, passenger in Awka

It was a black Sunday in Awka on Sunday as a trailer crushed a commercial motorcyclist and his female passenger at the Kenneth Dike Library axis of the Awka – Onitsha Expressway.

According to an eyewitness, Jacob Ogbuche, who is also a motorcyclist, the late cyclist with his passenger entered the expressway from the road leading to Teachers’ House, beside the Library wall and was riding against the traffic.

Ogbuche revealed that the late cyclist was hit by an oncoming SUV from the opposite direction and swerved immediately, giving room for a trailer which was behind the SUV to crush the cyclist and his female passenger.

It was gathered that the two were crushed beyond recognition as their blood splattered on the express road.
Policemen who were on election duty were able to stop the trailer driver some metres from the scene of the incident while the SUV driver ran away.

Personnel of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) who arrived the scene promptly took away the remains of the victims but refused to talk to journalists.
About 15 minutes after the dead bodies were evacuated, another accident occurred near the scene of the incident as a driver of a Rover Saloon car who was over speeding, rammed into the wire mesh recently put in place by the State Government along the express road.
Fortunately, two occupants of the vehicle came out alive with minor injuries but were also taken away by FRSC personnel for medical attention.
