Tragedy as moving train kills Unilag undergraduate at Ikeja
…as eyewitnesses say victim’s airpiece was a hindrance
A fast -8moving train coming from Sango area in Ogun State heading towards Iddo Terminal in Lagos, knocked down and killed a young man in his mid 30s yesterday at Anifowoshe area in Ikeja, Lagos State.
The accident occurred along the railway line at about 8: am on Tuesday morning around Ajayi Farms, Anifowoshe area.
The victim died instantly after being knocked out from the rail track by the fast moving train.
A University of Lagos identity card bearing Fatai Mutiu Abolade, in the department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences, was found in the deceased bag.
Other items, including a laptop, the charger, passport photographs and other personal items were also found in his bag.
Passers-by who witnessed the ugly incident told The Daily Times that the deceased could neither observe nor hear the sound of the coming train because he was having an earpiece in his two ears.
Although, it is not certain if the deceased was actually listening to the earphone when the accident occurred; an earpiece was however, found lying very close to his bag.
It was also gathered that the train on approaching Anifowoshe area, had sounded its horn, alerting pedestrians crossing the railway track to leave the track.
The corpse had since been taken away by Police officers attached to the Ikeja Police Division at about 10: am on Tuesday morning.
