Tragedy in Ondo as Gunmen Invade Palace, Assassinate Monarch
Tragedy has struck the Agamo community in the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State following the brutal assassination of its traditional ruler, Kehinde Jacob Faledon.
The monarch was killed on Wednesday night after a group of unidentified gunmen brazenly invaded his palace.
According to reports, the assailants forcibly abducted the traditional ruler from his residence. Just minutes after the invasion, his body was discovered with fatal gunshot wounds at a location very close to his home.
Confirming the gruesome incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Jimoh Abayomi, stated that the monarch was pronounced dead right at the scene. He detailed how the authorities were alerted to the emergency by a local representative.
“Information reached the division at about 7:50pm from a community leader, High Chief Ajewole Clement of New Town, Itaogbolu, that about six-armed men stormed the residence of the monarch and forcibly took him away. The victim was subsequently found with gunshot injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene,” Abayomi explained.
In response to the brazen attack, security forces have launched a massive, joint manhunt to apprehend the fleeing killers. The police command has immediately mobilized various tactical units alongside local vigilante groups to scour the area.
“The divisional police officer supported by tactical teams of the command, mobilised officers in collaboration with local hunters, Atuluse Security, and Amotekun operatives are combing the surrounding bushes and neighbouring communities,” the police spokesperson noted.
“Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the perpetrators of this heinous crime. Monitoring activities have also been strengthened to ensure the safety of residents and prevent a breakdown of law and order,” Abayomi added, assuring the public that the perpetrators will face justice.
