Traditional keaders urged to support Child Health Initiative

Traditional rulers in Bauchi State have been called upon to play a vital role in guiding and supporting the implementation of the Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS) project.

The Principal Investigator of CHAMPS, Dr. Lamaran Dattijo Makama who made the call emphasized the importance of community engagement and the need for traditional leaders’ voices, insights, and blessings to succeed in preventing child mortality.

Dr. Makama reaffirmed the CHAMPS team’s commitment to transparency, collaboration, and respect for all stakeholders.

He welcomed traditional leaders and local government representatives, appreciating their presence and commitment to children’s health.

The Chairman of the CHAMPS Community Advisory Board, Baba Mohammed Gidado, commended the project’s implementation, noting its positive impact on primary healthcare delivery services.

He reassured that traditional institutions will continue to support the project.

Our correspondent reports that the meeting aimed to review the project’s past performance, discuss strategies, and encourage pregnant women to attend antenatal care and enroll in CHAMPS pregnancy surveillance.
