Tiv, Fulani in Nasarawa reconcile, sign peace pact

If the events of Thursday, April 26 are anything to go by, killings and destructions which hitherto had reign supreme would be a thing of the past within the Tiv and Fulani in Naarawa state.

The warring parties after 170 lives were lost in perennial clashes on Thursday, at the state capital Lafia signed a peace pact with a view to bringing lasting peace to the Southern Senatorial Zone of the state which had been a bed rock of violence.

Speaking during the meeting, the state chairman of Miyetty Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) Mohammed Hussani said the meeting was aimed at bringing to an end the incessant killings of both the Tiv and Fulanis.

He stressed that if the two groups have agreed to live in peace with each other in their various communities, they would not need any security to enforce any peace.

Accordingly, He, advised all the Fulani people in the state not to take laws into their hands but report any provocative act to their leaders for prompt action

Similarly, the representative of Tiv in the meetings Boniface Ifer, said the Tiv in the state are willing to live in peace with the Fulanis.

He appealed to the Fulanis not to transfer aggression of the implementation of ‘anti open grazing law’ in Benue State to their kindred’s in Nasarawa state.

Ifer, however assured the public that the Tiv people are fully committed to ensuring peace and promised to expose bad elements among them.

Similarly, Ardo Lawal Dano, the Nasarawa State Chairman of forum of Ardos said the Fulanis are equally committed towards giving peace a chance.

He said the leadership of Fulani people in the state would reward any Fulani community that facilitate the return of Tiv to their deserted community.
