Tinubu Swears in Christopher Musa as New Defence Minister

President Bola Tinubu has sworn in General Christopher Musa (retd), the former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), as the new Minister of Defence.

The brief swearing-in ceremony took place at the State House in Abuja on Thursday, a day after the Senate screened and confirmed Musa’s nomination.

Musa replaces Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who recently resigned from the cabinet reportedly on health grounds.

In a post on X, President Tinubu praised the Senate for the “expedited confirmation” of his nominee, stating that the appointment comes at a “critical juncture” in the nation’s history.

“I want to commend the Nigerian Senate for its expedited confirmation of General Musa yesterday. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Tinubu wrote.

The new minister, who previously served as Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, brings extensive military experience to the role. At his screening, he assured lawmakers of his commitment to serving Nigeria diligently.

Among those present at the ceremony were Senate President Godswill Akpabio; National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu; and the current Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede.
