President Bola Tinubu has removed the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, from office, appointing Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Tunji Disu as his replacement.
According to various reports, Egbetokun’s resignation came after the President directed him to do so at a meeting on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Tinubu previously appointed Egbetokun as the 22nd Inspector-General of Police on June 19, 2023. His substantive appointment was later approved by the Nigeria Police Council on October 31, 2023.
Egbetokun, who was appointed at the age of 58, was initially scheduled to retire on September 4, 2024, at the statutory retirement age of 60. However, the President controversially prolonged his tenure, which sparked public discussion at the time.
