Tinubu reappoints Dankaka as FCC chairman, names new secretary, 31 Commissioners

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reappointed Dr. Muheeba Dankaka as the Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) for a second five-year term.

In a statement issued on Monday, August 11, by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President also named Mohammed Musa as the Commission’s Secretary.

Kayode Oladele, the Ogun State representative and former House of Representatives member, will retain his position as commissioner.

Oladele briefly served as the FCC’s acting chairman after the expiration of Dankaka’s first tenure in 2024.

“The reappointment of Dr. Dankaka is in recognition of her commitment to upholding the constitutional mandate of the Federal Character Commission and ensuring fairness in public service appointments,” the statement said.

President Tinubu also renewed the appointments of Lawal Ya’u Roni (Jigawa), Abubakar Atiku Bunu (Kebbi), and Eludayo Eluyemi (Osun) for another term.

According to the statement, “The President expects the newly appointed commissioners to discharge their duties with integrity, transparency, and a firm commitment to Nigeria’s unity and inclusivity.”

The new commissioners, representing all states and the Federal Capital Territory, include Hon. Obina Oriaku (Abia), Mrs. Bema Olvadi Madayi (Adamawa), Obongawan Dora Ebong (Akwa Ibom), Hon. Nnoli Nkechi Gloria (Anambra), Babangida Adamu Gwana (Bauchi).

The FCC is constitutionally mandated to promote fairness and equitable distribution of positions in the public service across Nigeria’s diverse states and regions.
