President Bola Tinubu has nominated Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, the immediate past sole administrator of Rivers State and a former chief of naval staff, as a non-career ambassador.
Tinubu also put forward Ita Enang, a former senator; Chioma Ohakim, former first lady of Imo State; and Abdulrahman Dambazau, former minister of interior and ex-chief of army staff, for non-career ambassadorial appointments.
Their names did not appear in the earlier batch of ambassadorial nominees released by the presidency.
The president’s latest nominations were contained in a letter read on the floor of the Senate by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary. In the correspondence, Tinubu asked lawmakers to give the nominees “swift consideration” to enable the government fill critical diplomatic postings.
Akpabio subsequently referred the list to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, directing the panel to complete its screening and submit its report to the chamber within one week.
Tinubu had earlier nominated Reno Omokri, former presidential aide; Femi Fani-Kayode, former aviation minister; and Mahmood Yakubu, the immediate past chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as ambassadors.
