Tinubu hails Tems on Grammy win, applauds Nigerian Artists

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian music star Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, on her victory at the 67th annual Grammy Awards, held in Los Angeles on Sunday night. Tems clinched the prestigious Best African Music Performance award, marking yet another milestone in her flourishing career.

In a statement issued on behalf of the nation, President Tinubu lauded the singer’s exceptional artistry, which he said has once again brought immense pride to Nigeria on the global stage. The President also highlighted the rapid rise of Nigerian musical talents who continue to redefine the global music industry, particularly through Afrobeats.

“From Africa to Antarctica, Asia to Australia, Europe to the Americas, the Nigerian music industry, particularly Afrobeats, has become a source of national pride, promoting a sense of identity and self-expression while uniting people across borders,” President Tinubu remarked.

Beyond celebrating Tems’ Grammy achievement, the President extended his congratulations to other Nigerian artists who were nominated at this year’s awards, including Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, Lojay, Davido, and Burna Boy. He praised them for their invaluable contributions to the global music industry and for elevating Nigeria’s cultural influence.

President Tinubu commended the artists for putting Nigeria on the world map of musical excellence, emphasizing their role in job creation, youth empowerment, and the promotion of tourism.

“You are all inspirations and role models to many young people. The nation remains deeply grateful for your contributions to music, job creation, and tourism promotion. I wish you all continued success in your musical careers,” the President said.

The recognition from Nigeria’s highest office further underscores the growing influence of Nigerian artists on the global stage, as Afrobeats continues to dominate international charts and music festivals worldwide.
