Tinubu extends customs CG Bashir Adeniyi’s tenure by one year

President Bola Tinubu has approved a one-year extension for Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
Adeniyi’s tenure was initially expected to end on August 31, 2025, but the Presidency said the extension would give him time to consolidate key reforms already in motion.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Presidency commended Adeniyi’s “steadfast leadership and commitment to service,” noting that the extra year will enable him to complete ongoing initiatives.
The presidency listed the initiatives as the modernisation of customs operations, the full rollout of the National Single Window Project, and Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Appointed in 2023, Adeniyi has led a series of reforms aimed at plugging revenue leakages, improving border security, and driving digital transformation within the service.
The Presidency expressed confidence that Adeniyi’s continued leadership will further strengthen the NCS’s mandate in trade facilitation, revenue generation, and national security.
