Tinubu Congratulates FCT, Kano, Rivers Election Winners, Praises Wike
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the winners of the local elections held on Saturday. The elections took place in the Federal Capital Territory as well as Kano and Rivers states.
A statement released on Sunday by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed the successful polls.
The Independent National Electoral Commission organized the elections across six area councils in the FCT. By-elections also took place in state constituencies in Rivers and Kano states.
In the FCT, voters elected officials for chairmanship and councillorship positions. The area councils involved were Abuja Municipal, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali, and Abaji.
The state constituency by-elections covered Kano Municipal and Ungogo in Kano State, along with Ahoada East II and Khana II in Rivers State.
Official results showed the All Progressives Congress winning in Abaji, Kwali, Abuja Municipal, and Bwari area councils.
The Peoples Democratic Party secured a victory in Gwagwalada. The ruling APC also won both available legislative seats in Rivers State.
President Tinubu advised the newly elected officials to serve their people with dedication and humility. He called their new positions a sacred trust from the citizens.
The President specially commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. Tinubu noted that Wike has recorded remarkable achievements in the capital.
The President added that the work of the minister produced strong political rewards for the APC in the territory.
Tinubu extended his congratulations to the national and state leadership of the APC for the election victories.
He also praised INEC, security agencies, and voters for ensuring a peaceful voting process. He stated that the successful elections will strengthen the democratic culture in the country. The President asked INEC to continue improving its process for future polls.
The elections faced some challenges. Reports indicated a low voter turnout across various polling units.
Opposition parties also raised complaints about unlawful conduct during the exercise. The PDP has already set up a special legal team to handle petitions relating to the FCT area council elections.
