Tinubu Appoints Speaker Abbas to Chair Benue APC Reconciliation Panel
President Bola Tinubu has constituted a reconciliation committee for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, appointing the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas as chairman.
The appointment marks the second time President Tinubu has entrusted the Speaker with leading a high level reconciliation effort within the ruling party.
About four months ago, Speaker Abbas chaired a similar APC reconciliation committee in Bauchi State, which has since concluded its assignment.
The Benue APC reconciliation committee is mandated to address and resolve lingering internal crises within the party in the state.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Speaker, Mr. Musa Abdullahi Krishi, the committee will investigate the root causes of factionalism and disunity within the Benue APC, engage critical stakeholders and party organs to foster reconciliation and propose structural, procedural and strategic reforms aimed at ensuring lasting peace and political cohesion.
The committee is also expected to submit a comprehensive report with actionable recommendations to the President for consideration.
Members of the committee include the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, former Senate President, Senator Abdulaziz Yari; former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Matters, Alhaji Ibrahim Masari.
The Chief of Staff to the Speaker, Prof. Jake Dan Azumi, will serve as secretary of the committee, while the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Yobe State, Abdullahi Gashua, will be part of the secretariat.
The statement added that the committee would commence its assignment immediately by engaging all relevant stakeholders in the state.
President Tinubu had in August 2025, appointed Speaker Abbas to chair the APC reconciliation committee for Bauchi State, an assignment that has now been successfully completed.
