Tinubu appoints Rotimi Richard Pedro as NTA director-general

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named Rotimi Richard Pedro as the new director-general of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), in a move that signals a major leadership shake-up at the broadcaster.
The appointment comes with other key changes in NTA’s top management.
Karimah Bello has been named Executive Director of Marketing, Stella Din will serve as Executive Director of News, and Sophia Essahmed has been appointed Managing Director of NTA Enterprises Limited.
Pedro, a Lagos native, is a veteran media entrepreneur and consultant with nearly 30 years of experience in broadcasting, sports rights, and marketing communications across Africa, the UK, and the Middle East.
A qualified entertainment and intellectual property lawyer, he also holds a Master’s degree in Investment Management and Finance from City University Business School, London.
In 1995, he founded Optima Sports Management International (OSMI), which grew into one of Africa’s top sports content providers, distributing major events such as the English Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FIFA World Cup, and CAF competitions to more than 40 countries.
Pedro’s career includes senior roles at Bloomberg Television Africa, Rapid Blue Format, and consultancy work for FIFA, UEFA, Fremantle Media, and the African Union of Broadcasters (AUB).
He was instrumental in helping the AUB secure exclusive pan-African free-to-air media rights for all CAF competitions.
Industry observers say Pedro is known for building commercially successful broadcast platforms, boosting sponsorship revenues, and delivering world-class content to African audiences.
