Tin-Can Island Customs Surpasses Revenue Target, Generates N1.57trn

The Tin-Can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reported a remarkable revenue achievement, generating N1.576 trillion from cargo importation as of December 23, 2025, exceeding its annual target of N1.524 trillion by N51.83 billion.

Speaking to journalists, Customs Area Controller (CAC) Compt. Frank Onyeka attributed the success to disciplined operations, professionalism, and the collective commitment of staff. He noted that bulk cargo, general merchandise, and used vehicles remained the primary contributors to the command’s revenue.

“I am pleased to inform you that the Command has generated a total revenue of N1.576 trillion. This milestone reflects deliberate reforms, improved processes, and strong internal coordination,” Onyeka said.

He explained that the command’s efficiency gains were achieved by eliminating revenue leakages, streamlining alert systems, and strengthening coordination with stakeholders including importers, licensed customs agents, terminal operators, and shipping companies.

“While we facilitated legitimate trade, we remained steadfast in enforcement. Intelligence-driven operations and vigilant monitoring enabled us to seize prohibited and improperly declared goods, reinforcing national security, public safety, and economic integrity,” he added.

Onyeka emphasised that surpassing the revenue target does not signify any relaxation in operational standards. “The attainment of our annual revenue target is a testament to efficiency and discipline, but our commitment to strict enforcement remains unwavering,” he said.

The command’s achievement highlights the impact of strategic reforms, enhanced stakeholder engagement, and rigorous enforcement on boosting government revenue while ensuring secure and transparent trade operations at Nigeria’s busiest seaport.
