“This unfortunate incident is deeply felt across Nigeria” — Adelabu on Fresh FM fire

Adebayo Adelabu, minister of power, has expressed sadness over the fire that razed Fresh FM, a radio station in Ibadan, Oyo state, owned by gospel singer and broadcaster Yinka Ayefele.

In a statement issued by Bolaji Tunji, his special adviser on strategic communications and media relations, Adelabu described the incident as “sad and unfortunate”.

“Fresh FM is a pillar of quality broadcasting, entertainment, and public enlightenment in Oyo state and by extension, Nigeria,” the minister said.

Adelabu said he received the news of the fire with deep concern and extended his sympathy to Ayefele, the management, staff of the station, and residents of the state.

“I extend my heartfelt sympathies to Dr. Ayefele, the management and staff of Fresh FM, as well as the good people of Oyo state over this unfortunate incident.

”Fresh FM has been a pillar of quality broadcasting, entertainment, and public enlightenment, and this loss is deeply felt across Oyo state and the nation,” he said.

The minister said the incident highlights the importance of electrical safety in both public and private facilities.

He urged stakeholders to prioritise regular inspections of power infrastructure and to adhere to safety standards to minimise fire risks.

Adelabu also commended the Oyo state fire service, first responders, and residents for their quick intervention in containing the blaze.

“Their dedication underscores the importance of robust emergency preparedness and the established good relationship in the neighbourhood,” he said.

“During this difficult time, we stand in solidarity with Dr. Yinka Ayefele and the entire Fresh FM family.”
