Telcos to roll over data balances soon – Danbatta

The National Communications Commission has hinted that the days when subscribers lose their data at expiry date may be over soon, adding that it will soon issue a directive to service providers to give a two-week window to subscribers to enable them roll over unused data.

The Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof Umar Danbatta disclosed this at the 2017 Port Harcourt International Trade Fair recently.

Danbatta, who was represented by the Head of Projects, NCC, Mr. Bashir Idris, charged zonal offices of NCC to take the message to the grassroots through NCC conversation channels, noting that the commission was committed to protecting customers, which is one of the eight-point agenda of the commission.

The NCC boss said, “ The commission will soon issue a directive to the service providers to give a 14-day window to the subscribers to enable them to roll over their unused data, even if they do not renew on the expiration of the data.

Expressing confidence that the planned directive will bring an end to the era that allows subscribers to lose their entire unused data, Danbatta says the move will add value to cconsumer of telecom services, stating that service consumers deserve the attention of resolving their problems.

“This will stop the current practice where subscribers lose their entire unused data if they fail to renew on the date of expiration of the current subscription,’’ he said.
