Teenage boy charged with N600,000 theft

An 18-year-old, Ogundare Bolade, on Monday appeared in an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N600,000 belonging to a spinster at a market.

Bolade, whose address was not given, is facing a charge of theft.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

But the Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Samson Osobu, insisted that the accused committed the offence between February and March 2017 at No. M18, Fayose Market, Ado-Ekiti.

According to him, the N600, 000 belonged to Miss Akinwunmi Bola.

The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.

The offence contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State 2012.

Counsel to the accused, Mr Simeon Ojo, urged the court to grant him bail with a promise that he would not jump bail.

In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Adesoji Adegboye granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Further hearing in the case has been fixed for June 18.
