Teacher in court for allegedly assaulting student

The Police on Thursday arraigned a 55-year-old teacher, Chucks Igbani, in a Badagry Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly assaulting his student.

The defendant, of no fixed address, is facing a three-count charge of assault, maltreatment  and breach of public peace.

The prosecutor, Insp. Ayodele Adeosun, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Feb. 28, at about 9:00a.m, at Sound Success College Tutorial Centre, Igborosun, Badagry, Lagos.

Adeosun said that the defendant assaulted one Favour Ayoola, a teenager, who was a student in his tutorial college.

He said the defendant beat up the female student in public, subjected her to ill-treatment and instigating public against her.

The offences contravened the provisions of sections 170, 134, 135 and 166 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge.

Magistrate Lazaru Hotepo admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until April 14, for mention.
