Ahead of the re-run of the Taraba State governorship election scheduled for April 25, between the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Sen. Aisha JummaiAlhassan, and the candidate of the Peoples Democractic Party (PDP) Mr.DairiusIshiaku, two women groups have appealed for transparency and neutrality of both the security agencies and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in the conduct of the exercise.

The groups are Ladies of Grace and the Agape Sisters. At a press conference, in Abuja, on Friday, the warned of grave consequences should the Taraba State and the people they called the “Abuja political cabal”insist on influencing the outcome of the rerun.

Alhassan, the women insisted, had represented them well enough to be entrusted with the elective position of the governor of Taraba State.

Referring to Alhasan’s gender-friendliness, while she was the Chief Registrar of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, the leaders of Agape Sisters and Ladies of Grace listed the Alhassan’s modest contributions to include the erections of the multi-billion naira FCT High Court complex, employment and promotion of female lawyers and offering scholarship to the children of the poor.

They presented some students, who, according to them, were among the many to whom Alahassan had reached out in recent past.

Representatives of the two groups –Mrs.LadiJatau and Madam Alice Ishiaku – called on some powerful interest groups from Abuja, as well as Taraba, to stay clear from what they called unnecessary intervention in the outcome of the next weekend rerun.
