Most Rev. (Dr.) Charles Hammawa, Catholic Bishop of Jalingo Diocese in Taraba State has decried the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Five Billion Naira (N5bn) palliatives allocated to each State saying, it is inadequate.
Bishop Hammawa stated this in Jalingo the state capital during the funeral Mass of Hon. Victor Bala Kona, former State PDP Chairman who died at Abuja recently after a brief illness.
The funeral Service held at the Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cathedral Jalingo, the Clergy explained that N5bn allocated to each State as Palliative to cushion the effects of Petroleum Subsidy removal by President Tinubu was grossly inadequate to feed a State like Taraba that has over three million people resident in the area.
“I am very bold to ask, what is N5bn for the population of 3 million Tarabans?,
“If they say it’s the first stage, better but it’s not enough. Life has become unbearable for 99.9 percent of Nigeria’s population”,
“But we need more of better policies so that life can be bearable for all Nigerians”, he added.

He described Nigeria as a country blessed with both natural and human resources but expressed worry that the citizens of the Country, over the years has suffered from untold hardship and backwardness attributing it to bad leadership styles.
Dr. Hammawa, who lauded Governor Agbu Kefas’ free education policy for both Primary school pupils and Secondary School Students in the State, wondered if the resources are available considering the present economic situation of the Country.
He called Nigerians to live in peace despite religious, tribal and Political differences.
“Let’s open our minds and hands accepting ourselves as one, whether from North, South, East or West, irrespective of Party affiliations, religious beliefs or political inclinations”,
“We can do better and we have the resources, let the gap between the rich and the poor in Nigeria be closed”,
“One final Appeal is making Religion what Religion is in this Country”, he added.
The man of God also called on the children and family of the deceased, the people of Kona Chiefdom, the government and people of Taraba State to take solace in God pointing out that God will comfort them.
He urged all to always be prepared for the final call which according to him, late Victor has answered.
“This is our final calling, if we don’t do the right thing here now, when are we going to do it?”, he queried.
