Suspected herdsmen kidnap saw miller in Ondo

Four gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have abducted a saw miller, Mr. Oyewale Akinwande, at Idoani town in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo state.

Mr. Akinwande was kidnapped while switching on an electric generating set at the mill located in Owaani area of the town during the weekend.

Daily Times learned that four wielding gunmen kidnapped the saw miller after shooting sporadically to scare away the workers in the town.

Eyewitnesses who confirmed the kidnap incident to reporters in Akure said the abductors forced their way into the sawmil through the bush path.

One of the witnesses also said that the hoodlums escaped with their victim through the Ipele/Idoani road.

He said the road had been the route used by the armed hoodlums to terrorize unsuspecting residents and commuters in the area.

“They started shooting into the air immediately they entered into the sawmill to scare us [workers] in the timber factory away and everyone scampered for safety.

“They were able to locate Mr. Akinwande where he had gone to on the generating set because we were about resuming the day’s work when the four gunmen stormed the site.

“We have reported to the police about the kidnap and they have even visited the here to see the situation of things and have commenced investigation”

Femi Joseph, Spokesman of the Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident and said the police have commenced investigation into the kidnap case adding that the victim would be rescue unhurt.

“We are already making progress on our investigation and I can assure that the victim would be rescue from the den of the kidnappers” he said.

Mr. Joseph, however, promised that the kidnappers would soon be arrested as the police is currently on their trail.
