Super Falcons embody Nigeria’s excellence, says Tuggar after WAFCON triumph
Yusuf Tuggar, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, has congratulated the Super Falcons following their record 10th title win at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
In a statement released shortly after the team’s 3–2 victory over Morocco in the final, Tuggar hailed the Falcons for their discipline, unity, and resilience—qualities he said reflect the true spirit of Nigeria.
“The Super Falcons have once again shown what it means to represent Nigeria with pride and purpose. Their determination, unity, and consistency reflect the values we hold dear as a nation,” he said.
Tuggar described the team as “true ambassadors of Nigerian excellence on the global stage”, praising their performance as not just a sporting triumph but a diplomatic milestone.
He also commended President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to sports development. He applauded Shehu Dikko and the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for what he called “purposeful guidance and strategic support.”
“This victory is the result of purposeful leadership, sound management, and the unshakable spirit of Nigerian athletes. I congratulate President Tinubu, Mr Shehu Dikko, and the entire NFF family for creating the enabling environment for this triumph,” Tuggar said.
The minister noted that the Falcons’ success is a source of pride and a powerful inspiration for girls across the continent.
He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to promoting Nigeria’s image globally through sports diplomacy.
“Their victory is not only a sporting achievement but a diplomatic symbol of Nigeria’s strength, unity, and global presence,” he added.
With this win, the Super Falcons further cement their status as Africa’s most successful women’s football team.
