Super Eagles avoid Benin airport, fly direct to Johannesburg from Asaba
The Super Eagles will now fly out to Johannesburg, South Africa direct from Asaba today (Thursday), not through Benin City for Saturday’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.
Gernot Rohr’s men were earlier scheduled to travel to Johannesburg for the game from Benin City airport, it was gathered from a top official of the team.
The players and their officials will fly out of the Asaba Airport to Johannesburg at 5pm Nigerian time today (Thursday).
The Super Eagles had their last training session at the Stephen Keshi Stadium on Thursday morning ahead of their departure in the evening.
The training was behind closed doors with Rohr not willing to give out any hints of his team’s plans for the game.
The Super Eagles will have a feel of the FNB Stadium Johannesburg on Friday afternoon.
They will travel back to the country on Saturday and will commence preparations for next Tuesday’s friendly encounter against the Cranes of Uganda at the Stephen Keshi Stadium.
The three-time African champions are currently top of Group E with nine points from four games, and need just three more points to guarantee their qualification to the 2019 AFCON in Cameroon.
