COVID-19 infection rate has nose-dived in Bauchi, says Bala


Bauchi state Governor, Bala Mohammed, has said that the number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases has significantly reduced in the state as a result of the concerted efforte made by the state task force on Lassa fever and COVID-19.
The governor while addressing stakeholders at a meeting on Wednesday in Bauchi, said the death toll from the disease in the state has risen to five, adding that six patients were on Wednesday, discharged from the hospital.
Governor Bala, who attributed the five fatalities to the delay by infected persons seeking medical attention and other underlying health issues, said the state has a 2.2 per cent death rate out of 225 confirmed cases.
The governor, who said one positive case of the virus has been recorded on Wednesday, added that the state has a total confirmed cases of 227 with a total of 127 persons discharged.
Bala described the death rate as the lowest in the entire country, noting that the total number of active cases in the state is now 93.
“Allah in his infinite mercy has made this thing to nose-dive and today, we have the least number of those in hospitals compared to those that have been discharged and from all indications, Allah has answered our prayers”, he said.
While announcing the lifting of the lockdown order in the state, Bala said the order was not deliberate or meant to punish anybody, but an attempt to curtail the spread of the virus amongst the people.
Governor Bala while recalling that the World Health Organization (WHO) has predicted that the disease may not completely go away and that people have to learn to live with the virus, expressed delight that Bauchi state has successfully managed the disease.
The governor who commended the state task force on Lassa fever and COVID-19 headed by his deputy, Senator Baba Tela, said that the state government has distributed food items as palliativew to three local governments where total lockdown was imposed about a week ago.
The Daily Times had reported that the Bauchi state government had imposed a 10 -day total lockdown in Katagum, Zaki and Giade Local Government Areas of the state to control community infection of the novel coronavirus.
