Sule Lamido enters PDP national chairmanship race, vows to restore old glory
Sule Lamido, the former governor of Jigawa, has disclosed his intention to contest for the position of national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Lamido, a former minister of foreign affairs and one of the party’s founding members, made the announcement in a post on his Facebook page on Monday.
He said he would visit Wadata Plaza, the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, to obtain his nomination form.
“By the grace of God, I shall today, Monday, 27th October 2025, by 11 a.m., be at Wadata Plaza, the national headquarters of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, to purchase the nomination form to run for the office of national chairman,” he wrote.
Lamido stated that he is confident in his capacity to rebuild the party, adding that his decision was inspired by the need to strengthen internal democracy.
“My commitment to democracy and resolve to restore our dear party to its old glory is unstoppable,” he said.
The PDP is expected to elect new national working committee (NWC) leaders at its national convention, which is billed for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
In August, the party’s national executive committee (NEC) zoned its presidential ticket to the south, and the national chairmanship was subsequently zoned to the north.
The position was further micro-zoned to the north-west, where Lamido joins other rumoured contenders, including former governor Ahmed Makarfi and Kabiru Turaki, a former minister.
