Subsidy removal: NNPP chief tasks Tinubu on succor to Nigerians

A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately provide succour to Nigerians who have been suffering untold hardship as a result of his removal of subsidy on petroleum products.

Ajadi, who bemoaned the current hardship being suffered by Nigerians, cautioned Tinubu, saying the welfare of Nigerians should be his priority.

In a statement he issued on Monday and made available to journalists, the Ogun State gubernatorial candidate of the NNPP in the last general elections said Tinubu ought to have planned well and put in place palliative measures before removing subsidy on petroleum products.

He condemned the alleged dilly-dallying over palliatives, saying people were going through excruciating pains and they deserved immediate succor.

“First of all, you can no longer delay the palliatives, because your policies are biting hard on ordinary Nigerians,” he said.

“There is the need for the president to increase civil servants’ salaries and when that is done, he should not forget the pensioners.

“I suggest a N200, 000 minimum wage for workers to cushion the effect of the removed subsidy. Acceding to N200,000 minimum wage will show that President Tinubu is a democrat who cares for the welfare of the citizens he is governing,” Ajadi said.

On the ministerial nominees’ list prepared by the president, Ajadi said the names reeled out by Tinubu was a disappointment to Nigerians, adding that “we were expecting young and energetic Nigerians as ministers. The recycling of old politicians in Tinubu’s cabinet is a disappointment.

“Nigerians, at this time, need committed and highly resourceful youths, not recycling of old and bemused politicians, most of who did nothing tangible in the states they ruled for eight years.

“President Tinubu is getting it wrong with the calibre of people he has picked to work with. Most of the ministerial nominees have been in government since 1999. Nigeria needs young people with fresh ideas and enough energy and mental resources, because the country is presently in a precarious situation.”
