The House of Representatives Special Committee investigating fuel subsidy Payment has summoned the Auditor General of the Federation (AuGF) to appear before it to provide documentary evidences on audit report carried out on funds used by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, (NNPC) Ltd for subsidy Payment between 2013 and 2022.
The Committee directed that the AuGF, Okoliaboh Sylvia be present on Tuesday, 30th August, 2022 with relevant financial transactions on subsidy payment for the period under review.
Chairman, Special Ad-hoc Committee, Rep Ibrahim Aliyu issued the notice in Abuja on Thursday, during the scrutiny of documents submitted by representative of Sylvia, Mohammed Saleh, Director overseeing Federation Accounts.
In a bid to ensure fair hearing as enshrined in the law, the Committee Chairman, Aliyu also, directed that the Accountant General be present on the 8th September, 2022 with relevant documents concerning the transactions.

In his intervention, Rep Isiaka Ibrahim tasked the Accountant General of the Federation on the need to have independent monitoring mechanism to verify the veracity of the transactions.
He also expressed the need for the office of the Accountant General of the Federation to ensure due diligence by verifying the transaction documents submitted by all government agencies in line with its functions as spelt out in the Act.
On his part, Rep Mark Gbillah after thorough scrutiny of the documents, identified some discrepancies in the amount computed in the NNPC documents.
While ruling and adjourning for the day, Rep Aliyu explained that the House mandated the Ad-hoc Committee to ensure effectiveness of the fuel subsidy regime, scrutinize payment to petroleum marketers which he said; “we will carry out effectively.”
