Strike: UNIABUJA threatens ASUU, SSANU, NASU with ‘no work no pay’

The management of the University of Abuja has threatened to enforce the “no work, no pay” directive by the Federal Government on members of the local branch of Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU), Senior Staff association of Nigeria, (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff of Nigerian Universities (NASU), who opted to join the Waba-led faction of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), in their nation-wide industrial action, designed to force the Federal Government to rescind the  decision on the recent fuel price increase.

A statement from the office of the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Michael Adikwu, which was made available to newsmen, at the weekend, called on the staff to resume go back to classes, immediately, in the interest of the growth and stability of the university.

The statement further urged the striking workers to take into cognisance the wider support the Federal Government was presently enjoying on the deregulation policy and the fact that majority of Nigerians were not in support of their on-going strike action  and return to work.

The statement said: “While we appreciate the reasons adduced by a faction of labour for going on strike and considering the fact that concerted efforts are being made by government and all concerned to address the issues, we call on our staff on sympathy strike to resume work immediately, in order to sustain the tremendous progress we have jointly made so far in stabilising the institution.

We may be forced to comply with the government directive on the strike if they failed to heed this appeal.”
