Strike: Lagos Doctors Attend to Patients

Despite the ongoing strike action by the Lagos State doctors under the aegies of the Medical Guild, the doctors are still attending to patients.

Medical activities are on-going as doctors were seen attending to patients at some hospitals monitored by our reporter.

At the Ifako Ijaiye General Hospital, Ikorodu General Hospital and the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Lagos, both in and out patients were attended to.

Mrs Naomi Memeh, who spoke to our reporter said, “Doctors are attending to patients very well and this strike is different from others and it’s quite impressive.”

Also, other patients seeking medical consultations were seen seated as they wait for their turns to be attended to by the doctors on duty.

Another patient at LASUTH, who identified herself as Ngozi Amefule said, “The doctors are attending to patients. I’ve been attended to this morning.”

However, doctors under the employment of the state government, have said that the ongoing strike is to pass a message across and not to let people die.

“This strike is not to let people die or watch someone die but to drive a message. As agreed, emergency cases are attended to as well as take care of patients already admitted rather than leaving the patients to their fate but no elective cases would be attended to,” said the President, Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), LASUTH chapter, Dr. S F Ahmad.
