Stop blackmailing Nigeria over Sowore, CSO warns SERAP

The Social Society for Peace and Social Justice (NSPSJ) has come hard on the

Addressing a press conference in Abuja, the Spokesperson, Nigerian Society for Peace and Social Justice, Bishop Isaac Oduma, particularly frowned at the letter purportedly written by SERAP to the Archbishop of Canterbury, seeking his intervention to secure the release of Mr Omoloye Sowore who is currently been prosecuted for treason.
Bishop Oduma, however, called on the Federal Government and her institutions not to be dettered going forward in the protection of the nation’s unity and sovereignty as one indivisible nation.
“We are here particularly to address the multiple and

“Our concerns are fundamentally premised on the need for peace and harmony among Nigerians and organisations.
“SERAP for the same reasons of destabilizing the country and giving it a bad image before Nigerians and International Community had allegedly written a letter to the archbishop of Canterbury, purportedly seeking his intervention in the prosecution of Mr Omoloye Sowore who is currently been prosecuted for treason. Which we all know is one of the most grievous offences against the state.”
While noting that Sowore is not the only citizen of Nigeria currently undergoing a judicial review over criminal charges, he also questioned the rational behind SERAP dragging a religious leader, the Archbishop of Canterbury’s into a case that is clearly not trans-border.
“In what capacity is SERAP seeking the Archbishop of Canterbury’s intervention?
“Is Mr Omoloye Sowore a citizen of the United kingdom? Even if he were, what is the role expected of a foreign religious leader in the criminal justice system of an independent Nigeria?
“Is Nigeria now so “disadvantaged ” that her leaders and institutions can no longer handle state matters including those that threaten the existence of the Nigerian state?
“Why would SERAP single out only Sowore and seek for his “freedom” when other Nigerians too are undergoing similar judicial reviews and open to the rules of the Nigerian state?
“Why drag the revered religious leader into your unholy schemishes just to malign and disparage the Nigerian state and her citizens?”
Speaking further, he noted that even United Kingdom laws do not insulate any citizen from prosecution and accountability even in their own country.
He stated that if not for mischief and deliberate campaign of calumny against the Nigerian state and her security institutions, the Organisation ought to have appreciated the the meaninglessness, emptiness, the unfruitful end of their baren and impotent sojourn against the Nigerian state and her security agencies.
“What informs the choice of a foreign religious leader when SERAP knows that we have similar influencers in Nigeria, if not for blackmail.
“We are not so surprised as to their choice of singling Mr Omoloye Sowore, because of course, he remains, not only their co-partner, but the man who provided and is still providing platforms for the promotion of every retrogressive agenda against the interest of the state long before now.”
