Stakeholders recount gains of civil service reforms

Major stakeholders, chiefs, students, community and opinion leaders from various communities and Local Government areas of Bayelsa state, have expressed satisfaction on the civil service reforms policy of the Dickson led administration.

They noted that more monies have been saved and more graduates will be employed.

Speaking in Sagbama Local Government area during the ongoing town hall meetings in the eight LGAs of the state initiated by the state government under the supervision of the Ministry of information, the stakeholders hailed Governor Dickson’s decision to correct the wrongs in the civil service.

According to the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Sagbama local government, Mr. Michael Magbisa, the reform has helped in reducing the wage bill of the council, adding that he is in total support of the reform.

He further stated that there was no better time than this to set things right, adding that the initiative of the governor will be much more appreciated in year to come.

In their separate views the leader of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Hon. Peter Akpe and the member representing Sagbama Constituency 3, Hon. Bernard Kinebai, assured the people that the assembly will do everything within the law to assist genuine workers effected by the reform, adding that the reform is in the best interest of the state.

The state Commissioner for information and orientation, Mr. Iworiso Madison, noted that the reform is done in good faith and not to witch hunt anybody, adding that the message of the exercise should be spread across the LGAs for everyone to know the importance and benefits.

In a related development, unemployed graduates in state also lauded Governor Henry Seriake Dickson for approving the employment of 1000 young graduates from the state into civil service.

Speaking at Kaiama, headquarters of Kolukuma/Opokuma local government yesterday during the town hall meeting organized by the state ministry of Information and Orientation to brief the people about the public service reforms in the state,

the president of unemployed graduates in the state, Mr Dominic Tarabina said that the governors directive will take many youths of the state from the street and offer them opportunities to display their talents..

He said the government action will help give meaningful source of living for the youths, who have been roaming the streets looking for jobs after many years of graduation.

He added that those that will be employed will work assiduously to boost the state public service, while decrying a situation where those with computer certificates and over aged people will be allowed to work, while genuine graduates will be roaming the streets.

He said with the government public service reforms, Bayelsa state civil service will become one of the vibrant public services in the country.

The state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Daniel Iworiso-Mackson, stated that the public service reforms is aimed at creating opportunities for young people in the state.

He noted that the appointment of 1000 young graduates into the state civil service will give hopes t0 the graduates in the state who were roaming the streets with their certificates.
