Stabbing him was not intentional – 17 year old murder suspect cries

Call it lack of parental care or a pre-destined act; you may not be far from the truth in respect of what transpired between Hannah Osazuwa and late Akintewe Tomide, both of whom were lovers.

The news broke on Monday, October 16th, when Osazuwa had reportedly stabbed Tomide on the chest with a scissors over a misunderstanding at Road 34, Block 71 E Close , Gowon Estate.

Contrary to reports that the Edo born Osazuwa had killed her boyfriend over a case of infidelity, the 17 year old who is currently been held at the State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department (SCIID) Panti, Yaba has said it was a mistake.

Our correspondent took time to hear Osazuwa who is a secondary school graduate tell her story. She said she was only trying to defend herself because Tomide was always beating her.

In tears she said, ” I live with my mother and my step father who is a policeman. My biological father and mother parted ways a long time ago before my mother remarried.

” Tomid has been my boyfriend for a very long time and I do go over to his place to spend the weekend. That weekend before his death, I had gone there and he threw me a surprise birthday party that Friday.

” Trouble however started on Saturday when I interfered in his discussion with his friend Odafe. Odafe and his girlfriend were having issues and he was explaining to Tomide when I asked why they couldn’t just settle the issue and move on. Tomide got angry and asked why I had interfered in their discussion. He hit me and ordered I go to the room.

” I went into the room and he also came in and started beating me. Friends around intervened and pleaded with him to stop.

” On Monday, while I was helping my friend loose her hair, Tomide who was sleeping suddenly woke up and called me to go and get his laptop from the room. I went to get it and he also followed me. He locked the door after him and said I was too stubborn, he said it was like the beating he had given me on Saturday was not enough.

I asked him what I had done but before I knew it he had started hitting me again. I was holding a scissors which I was using to loose my friend’s hair, so I threatened him with the scissors and he attempted to take it from me. It was while we were dragging it that I mistakenly stabbed him on the left side of his chest.”

Osazuwa said she immediately ran to the sitting room to call for help to take him to the hospital. But unfortunately Tomide gave up at the hospital while she was taken to the Gowon Estate Police Division and later SCIID.

Gbenga Daramola who is a cousin to the deceased and his flatmate also spoke with Daily Times on the death of the 20 year old.

He claimed that although the family knew about Tomide’s relationship with Osazuwa, they were always against it and had advised him severally to quit the relationship because she didn’t look responsible.

Daramola said, ” Tomide is my younger brother. I have been a part of his life since he was young. He was from a family of two children. His father and mother had divorced and his father took him and left his sister with the mother. His father lives in the USA while Tomide is in my care here in Lagos.

” When the incident happened, I had gone to the bank it was a friend who had called me to rush back home that there was an emergency. It was when I was almost home that I saw friends with Tomide on a bike bleeding. I immediately joined them and we went to Estate clinic. The doctor checked him and told us the clinic didn’t have the capacity to handle the case.

” We were referred to Igando General Hospital. It was while I was trying to get a card that he gave up.”

Daramola who is still in shock as to the demise of his brother said he wants justice. He said he wanted the law to take it’s full course.

” How I wish Tomide had listened to me and let go of this girl, how I wish I was there. He had just gained admission into Ondo Stare University and we were all making arrangements on when he will be leaving for school. Now he is no more . She just has to be punished, ” he cried.
