Speed limiting device: FRSC gives motorists February 1 deadline

The unit commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Surulere, Mr. Olatunji Oguntoye has called on the general public to begin installation of the speed limiting device, following the February 1 2017 enforcement date.
According to the commander, the road safety as a whole will hit the roads to arrest defaulters for non-compliance of speed limiting device, especially commercial vehicles.
“To this effect, we have been going around to inform stake holders, transport unions, companies, fleet operators and the likes around so as to remind them that this is the last week, they should make use, the advantage of this week.”
He also added “it is an act of magnanimity of the corps to set aside this week so as to remind them. All means of communications has been used to sensitize the country and especially the fleet operators on the importance of installation of speed limiting device. Our men are on the road to advice motorists to take good advantage of this period and by next week, there would be no question like how do I get it, where do I get it and how much is it sold.”
The FRSC boss also took time to plead with motorists and the general public to take advantage of the week-long awareness and reminder.
“Please I want to appeal to members of the public especially fleet operators, commercial operators and companies to take advantage of this thing. Like some companies would say that their vehicles are not commercial vehicles forgetting that any service delivery offices that can use their vehicles to carry out their business is also commercial. Categories of commercial vehicles are not just the one used to carry passengers alone. So it is important for the public to know about this and we have been going from one company to another to give them this kind of enlightenment so that there would be no excuse to say we don’t know that we fall within the category.”
“We also tell them to access approved vendors of speed limiting device from our website through www.frsc.rung.gov All these are means we want to use to reduce the rate of road accidents”.
