Speaker Abbas Charges Super Eagles to Bring AFCON Trophy Home
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas has congratulated the Super Eagles for qualifying for the semi-finals of the ongoing 2025 CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following their 2–0 victory over Algeria on Saturday.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, Speaker Abbas praised the national team for their impressive performances since the start of the tournament and urged them to go all the way by winning the competition and returning the AFCON trophy to Nigeria.
He said his prayers and support are with the Super Eagles as they prepare to face tournament hosts, Morocco, in the semi-final encounter scheduled for Wednesday, expressing confidence in the team’s ability to overcome the challenge and reach the final.
The Speaker also commended Nigerian sports authorities for providing adequate welfare and logistical support for the team, while calling for increased morale-boosting efforts as the competition enters its decisive stages.
Speaker Abbas urged Nigerians to sustain the level of support shown to the Super Eagles and extend the same commitment to other aspects of national life.
He reaffirmed his long-held view that sports remain a powerful tool for national unity across ethnic and religious divides, a significant employer of labour, and a sector with vast economic potential.
The Speaker wished the Super Eagles a successful outing in the AFCON semi-final match.
