SPDC Renovates School Library in Imo

The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd has handed over a Library it renovated and equipped with furniture and books to Model Secondary School Umualumaku Umuhim in Ehime Mbano Imo State in collaboration with nongovernmental organization, Women and Children Development Initiative ( WACDI ).

Commissioning the Library which was performed by Mrs. Ify Maureen Okafor under the chairmanship of Chief Martins Nnadozie, the School Principal , Mrs Chinelo Njoku commended Dr Tessy Madu the WACDI Founder, for attracting the project from the Shell company.

The Principal said that Dr Madu and her team had set up a Demonstration Farm in the school and followed it up by embarking on this school Library that has brought a lot of excitement to the staff and students.

She said that, the school still lacks perimeter fence, students and staff residence, conveniences for staff and students, Tables and Chairs while the ” laboratories are in a deplorable condition that should be seen rather than imagined and has many dilapidated blocks with leaking roofs.

According to the Principal , ” though the school occupies a very strategic position in this environment as the only public secondary school that serves Umualumaku/Umuihim communities and other towns beyond the LGA, it is yet to live up to the name Model Secondary.”

“I particularly commend Mrs Madu’s determination to continue the Library project having seen the decrepit and ill-equipped room that was called the school library.”

Also speaking , Mrs Madu said that when she saw the level of dilapidation of structures and facilities in the school, her WACDI tendered a proposal to the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd and got the sponsorship for the renovation of the Library Block and equipping it with the needed facilities within one year.

Mrs Madu described the project which started last year and completed this year , as a Legacy project she has dedicated to her late mother that saw to her education and called on other groups and individuals to assist the school.

The Representative of the State Secondary Education Management Board Mr Paul Otumbadi commended WACDI and the Shell Company for assisting the school with that facility and urged the staff and students to make the best use of the Library.

In this regard, Chairman of the ceremony Chief Martins Nnadozie announced a N40, 000. Donation, N20,000 by the School Board of Governors represented by a member Sir Eugene Osuagwu, Barrister Ify Maureen Okafor pledged computers.
