Sometimes I wish this cup would pass over me — Nnamdi Kanu

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, says that just like Jesus Christ, he is sometimes tempted to give up on the fight for the fruition of Biafra nation.

According to a report by the Sun Newspaper, Kanu compared himself to Jesus Christ who prayed to God at the Garden of Gethsemane, saying “If it is possible, let this cup pass from me,” on the eve of his arrest and subsequent trial.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was reacting to the recent killing of IPOB members on Sunday during a face-off with security operatives in Emene, Enugu State, Daily Times reports.

“In my most private moments – when I reflect on this struggle and its fallouts, I have often been tempted, like Christ, to ask that this cup be passed from me,” Kanu said.

“I am sure you all feel the same in many fleeting moments of despair that is common with the fragile human spirit.

“So, as we mourn this latest mass murder of our people, let us all take some comfort that they didn’t die in vain, they died in honour, they fell in defence of freedom and their precious blood will be best requited by our collective and abiding resolve to never back down until Biafra is restored,” Nnamdi Kanu said.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu ultimately re-asserted that he would shirk such feelings of doubt and continue to fight for the emancipation of his Igbo kindred from the shackles of a failed ‘One Nigeria’.
