Soludo Backs Tinubu, Cites Friendship, Shared Vision

Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has defended his open support for President Bola Tinubu despite belonging to a different political party, citing a two-decade friendship and a shared belief in progressive governance.

Speaking after a recent meeting with the President, Soludo described Tinubu as “hale and hearty” and “in high spirit,” calling their discussion “pleasant.”

“President Tinubu is my friend 22 years and counting and you don’t deny your friend,” Soludo said. “I’m impressed by the bold steps he has taken, particularly in the areas of the economy and structural reforms. We are taking the right steps and need to stay the course.”

He explained that his call for “progressives working together” is a push for a broad coalition across parties that share the ideology of progressivism to deepen democracy and drive economic and social development.

On security, Soludo highlighted Anambra’s “holistic” approach, anchored on the state’s new Homeland Security Law.

“All the deadly native doctors are on the run because they were luring young people into criminality,” he said.

The governor said the state combines kinetic measures with non-kinetic initiatives such as youth empowerment and job creation. He noted that 5,000 youths have been trained and empowered under a one-year skills programme, with another 8,700 set to benefit from billions of naira in funding soon.

“We are creating several thousands of youth millionaires within the first three years,” Soludo stated, adding that infrastructural upgrades, school and healthcare improvements, and targeted social programmes are helping tackle both hardship and insecurity.
