Shehu Sani to Soyinka: You’re wrong about OBIdients

BY ORIAKU IJELE

Senator Shehu Sani has raised his voice in defence of the OBIdients, a coagulation of youths, across ethnic divides, inspired by the political philosophy of the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi as regards their conduct online.

The former federal lawmaker has said the behaviour of supporters of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is more peaceful than those who backed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2011.

This comes on the heels of a statement credited to Nigeria’s renowned writer, Prof Wole Soyinka who had described ‘Obidients’ as “fascists”.

Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had also tagged Obidients as violent people following alleged verbal attacks on other presidential candidates.

Reacting in a now-viral tweet, Sani disagreed with Soyinka’s use of “fascism” to describe the ‘OBIdeint Movement‘, adding that Obi’s supporters were more peaceful than Buhari’s supporters in the 2011 presidential election.

“NO patriot should trigger or encourage anarchy; but we shouldn’t also ‘shorten our memories’, what Peter’s supporters are doing in 2023 is more peaceful than what Buhari’s supporters did in 2011.

“You only need to recall the past in order to appreciate the present,” he tweeted.
