Senator Uzodinma’s arrest: Igbo youths react
An umbrella organization of Igbo Youth Group across the country, the National Association of Igbo Youths (NAIY) have condemned in its entirety the recent campaign of calumny in the media orchestrated against the APC governorship candidate in Imo State, Chief Hope Uzodinma.
The association which described as the highest level of junk journalism, the insinuation in some media organizations that Chief Hope Uzodimma was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport on Sunday as he arrived in an Air Peace aircraft from Lagos.
A press statement released on Monday signed by its national secretary, Chuks Nnanyelugo said: “It is disappointing and shameful for people to peddle such un- founded rumours and allegation against a notable Igbo man who has devoted his wealth and life time for the care of the poor and the welfare of the down trodden in the Nigerian society.
“As at this morning (Monday), we put a call across to chief Uzodinma who was in his house attending to domestic issues and he completely denied that such an incident took place. As a senator of The Federal Republic of Nigeria, he has always behaved and done his business with absolute transparency and abiding integrity”.
The group wondered when and where the said report emanated from adding; “we however feel that such a purported incident, arrest and detention only existed in the imagination of the writers.
“In the present day experiment of our nascent democratic system, we advise that the press should be very thorough in its dissemination of information to the public as a way of ensuring peace and harmony in the country.
Our association which is non – political and non -partisan will like to see a Nigerian society where people see each other as their brothers and sisters irrespective of tribe, religion or political affiliation”.
The Igbo youths advised that political campaigns should be cantered on issues rather than character assassination rancour and bitterness saying that: “The kind of unfounded allegation and misinformation cannot do any good in the orbit of our political horizon.
“The people of Imo state have been clamouring for a change of leadership and this is the time for them to do what is right by voting in a tested and trusted politician of the ilk of Senator Hope Uzodinma for political and economic growth of the state”.
