Senator Okowa Leads Delta Guber Race
Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, the governorship candidate of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in Delta State, is leading in ten of the 11 councils results so far announced, on Sunday, by INEC at the state collation centre, in Asaba.
This was followed by Chief Great Ogboru of the Labour Party (LP), who won in Udu Local Government Area, but none for Olorogun O’tega Emerhor of All Progressive Congress (APC), as the results continued to trickle in from the 25 councils of the state.
Okowa had a landslide victory in his council area of Ika North East, where he polled 72,612 votes. He also secured overwhelming victories in Oshimili South and Oshimili North both in Delta North Senatorial District.
The result are: Sapele – PDP 13,837; APC 3,627; LP 7,848, Ethiope West – PDP 31,890; APC 2,329; LP 1,678, Oshimili South – PDP 47,938, APC 1,253; LP 1,218, Bomadi – PDP 51,974; APC 594; LP 594, Isoko North – 44,209, APC 4,502; LP 3,661, Ika North East – APC 340, LP 66, PDP 72,612 , Patani – APC 771, LP 684, PDP 16,421, Udu – APC 3369, LP 15,857, PDP 6097, Oshimili North – PDP 19,368; APC 978; LP; 505, Isoko South – PDP 30,355; APC 10,054; LP 4,023, Okpe – PDP 12,165; APC 3,706, LP 7,728.
The state Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Bio Nyananyo, who presided over the collation of the results announced that the collation would continue by 6 p.m. as the results from 14 council areas were still being expected.
But, an agent of the Labour Party at the collation centre, Mr. Turner Ogboru. raised issues with the results from Ika North East and Oshimili South Councils, alleging that the results as announced by the respective local government collation officers were inflated.
He protested that the results from the two councils should be set aside and properly audited, alleging that the results were not generated from the polling units.
Ogboru alleged that the LP agents were molested in Ika North East and were chased away by the agents of PDP in order to falsify the results, adding that for Oshimili South, the total number of votes recorded were higher than the figure of PVC collected in the area.
