Senator Adeola promises to push bill to prohibit estimated billing by DISCOs

The Senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District at the upper chamber of the National Assembly, Olamilekan Solomon Adeola has promised to see to the end of estimated billings,

otherwise called “crazy” bills by electricity distribution companies DISCOs in the country by sponsoring a bill on the floor of the Senate against estimated bills and compel them to metre their customers with prepaid metres.

According to Adeola, the bill when passed into law will put an end to what the DISCOs call estimated, but what Nigerians know as crazy billing, while any DISCO who refuses to meter Nigerians should not expect revenue. “We shall empower Nigerians to resist the payment of any estimated bills from any DISCO,” Adeola vowed.

Yayi, as the Senator is popularly known and called, who was the guess at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos Council “Meet the Press Forum” held at the Council secretariat,

Ikeja disclosed that Nigerians expect nothing less than quality and effective representation from its representatives at all levels of governance, assuring that the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria would not continue to fold its hands and allow those who bought the nation’s national asset continue to fleece Nigerians.

Answering question on why twice he showed interest in political offices in Ogun State, his home state and twice he was driven back to Lagos as a result of perceived enmity and political differences between himself and the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun,

Yayi who is also the APC Senatorial candidate for Lagos West in the 2019 general election dismissed the thought as baseless and unfounded, stressing that he had at no time had political deference with Gov. Amosun.

He explained that at those occasions he only showed his interests while he decided to retraced after wider consultations which according to him, is made up of three tiers before final decision could be taken.

The Senator also dismissed what he referred to as sentimental views by those who took him up after his thorough scrutiny of the former Finance minister, Mrs Kemi Adeosun that he vented his anger on her when she appeared before the Senate for screening because she was the nominee of Gov. Amosun.

According to him, he had been vindicated by the event that followed which led to the exit of the minister from government.

Rolling out accounts of his stewardship in the last three and half years, Yayi took credit for 15 bills out of which two had been assented to by President Muhammudu Buhari while he has also rolled out empowerment programmes with documented numbers of beneficiaries which includes;

scholarships to indigent and brilliant indigenes within the Senatorial district, the purchase of JAMB/UTME admission forms to equally indigent students and empowerment and skills acquisition programmes for thousands of his constituents.

The Senator revealed that his consistent lobbies and advocacy led to the award of the repair of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway by the Federal Government while assuring that the project which would address the entire stretch of the road network would begin at Mile 2 and terminate in Badagry.

On welfare package for the media practitioners, the Senator has this to say; “I’m going to work with the NUJ to get a bill instituted at the Senate to ensure that media owners make the welfare of their employees sacrosanct.

“All I need is for the NUJ to engage me and let us see how we are going to get this done.

Truly Lagos West houses the headquarters of majority of the media houses in Nigeria and getting a bill to redress the neglect of the welfare of this critical segment of our society is possible and I shall do it,” Yayi assured when responding to a question on welfare of media practitioners in the country.

While urging residents of the state and Nigeria to continue to vote for APC, the Senator described the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as party of wasters that has nothing more to offer the people of Nigeria.

According to the federal lawmaker, “The PDP has nothing to offer. That is why they are politicising everything that our party has introduced to make life more abundant for the people.

For instance, the Social welfare Fund being personally supervised by the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, for which nobody needed any collateral other than to apply online, but for which the PDP is accusing the ruling party of including beneficiaries phone number as well as PVC as prerequisite in the form being filled.

To those who are likening this to SURE-P, the Senator said SURE-P was a fund created to reinvest on infrastructure, but ended up in private pockets.
