Senate screens new NDDC board members as Odubu pledges repositioning commission

The Senate Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) on Thursday screened the 16 nominated members of the NDDC board.

Chairman -designate of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Pius Odubu, at the screening expressed the commitment of the new board to repositioning and rebranding the commission so as to change the narrative for good.

Dr. Odubu, who was the deputy governor of Edo state, gave the assurance that the incoming board has a lot of responsibility to justify the confidence reposed on members of the board by President Muhammadu Buhari who nominated them.

He said the commission needs to justify the huge financial commitment by the federal government to the board in fixing decayed infrastructure in the oil rich region and bringing socio – economic relief to people of the region.

Our reporter recalls that a list of 16 board nominees of the NDDC was submitted to the Senate by President Buhari for confirmation.

Buhari in the letter said that Bernard Okumagba from Delta state would serve as managing director, Otobong Ndem from Akwa Ibom state to serve as executive director projects while Maxwell Okoh from Bayelsa state will serve as the executive director, finance and administration, just as other board members will serve as representatives of NDDC states and the geo- political zones

The committee is expected to submit the outcome of the screening exercise next Tuesday at plenary.
