Senate Directs NIMASA to Pay Workers’ Allowances
The Senate Committee on Marine Transport has tasked the management of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA to make full payment of its workers allowances before its 2015 budget can be approved.
The Senate was disturbed by the non-payment of staff allowances and had invited the management for meeting to find out why the payments had not been made.
It was learnt that while housing and children education allowances had been paid, the furniture and leave allowances are still being awaited.
It would be recalled that the management of NIMASA came under serious attack following media report of the agency’s inability to pay workers’ allowances.
After the intervention of the Senate, the management at a time allegedly called for a meeting where it assured workers of the payment of their allowances on or before the first week of April
Some of the allowances, include housing, furniture and children education, were usually paid in the first week of January.
