Senate demands adequate provision for teachers in 2018 budget
The Senate has called for adequate provisions in the 2018 budget to cater for the welfare of teachers.
This is as Nigeria, yesterday joined the rest of the world to celebrate World Teacher’s Day.
The call followed a point of order raised by Senator Chukwuka Utaki (Enugu North) on the floor Of the Senate to commemorate with Nigerian teachers.
Utazi in his point of order prayed the senate to urge the federal government to make adequate provisions in the 2018 budget to cater for teachers welfare and the education sector.
In a remark, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, commended the resilience of teachers in spite of prevailing circumstances.
He also assured that there will be a roundtable that will address the numerous challenges bedevilling the education sector.
Meanwhile, Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has called for an investigation into the alleged squandering of N1.27b by the National Broadcasting Commission.
Raising Order 42 of the Senate Standing Rules, Melaye Alleged that the NBC squandered the sum which formed part of revenue generated in 2016.
He said the amount was spent on training, overseas travelling, among other things.
