Sen. Ordia condemns attack on Sen. Urhoghide at the Benin Airport

The Senator representing Edo Central Senatorial District, Senator Clifford Akhimienmona Ordia has joined the good people of Edo State both at home and in the diaspora to condemn the attacks on Senator Matthew Urhoghide representing Edo South in the Senate for discharging his legislative duties.
Describing the attack as executive recklessness, he said it was a clear indication that Nigeria is governed by people who don’t have the collective interest of the nation at heart.
Senator Ordia said the well-orchestrated attack aimed at humiliating Urhoghide, an illustrious Benin man, who is presently Chairman, Senate Committee on Public Accounts at the National Assembly is totally unacceptable and condemnable.
The senator in a statement alleged that Governor Obaseki , Edo State governor, “who witnessed the deleterious shameful act as it was executed against Senator Urhoghide, did nothing but climbed into his Jeep and gave a fist pump in approval and solidarity with his thugs for a job well-done.”
He said the Senator who has contributed so much projecting the rich Edo heritage, treated in such manner is absurd and an embarrassment not only to the Great Benin Kingdom but to the entire Edo people.
“Let me state categorically that as Senators, we sworn to protect our grand norm. We can never relent or be cowed and intimidated from discharging our constitutional responsibilities. We owe our constituents and Nigerians the duty to defend and entrench our democracy by speaking out against any violation of our constitution”, he said.
He added that the purported act displayed by President Muhammadu Buhari, to appropriate $496m without the approval of the National Assembly which is an impeachable offence is a flagrant abuse of Executive powers which must be outrightly denounced and therefore commend Senator Matthew Urhoghide for moving the motion.
However, Senator Ordia said Edo people are peace loving and wondered why such violence occurred and decried the lawlessness that took place at Benin Airport in the presence of the Edo Police Commissioner, Mr. Johnson Kukumo.
Senator Ordia, therefore called on the Police and other relevant security agencies to eschew all forms of complacency and as matter of urgency swing into action and ensure the black kitted hooligans who carried out that sacrilegious act allegedly sponsored by APC led Government against Senator Matthew Urhoghide, and others. are arrested and prosecuted immediately.
