Security guard jailed for stealing employer’s daughter’s bike

Abuja – A Grade I Area Court in Lugbe, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a 30-year old security guard,  Geofery Zalas, to six months imprisonment for stealing his employer’s daughter’s bicycle.

The police charged Zalas, a security guard attached to NIA quarters FHA Lugbe, Abuja with theft.

The judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced Zalas after he pleaded guilty  to also stealing a generator set, pumping machine, three car batteries and a pumping machine  all worth N328, 000

Sadiq, however, gave Zalas an option to pay a fine of N10, 000,

The judge also ordered the convict to pay N328, 000 as restitution to the complainant, Zalas prayed the court to temper justice with mercy.

“I am sorry for stealing. I am pleading with the court to temper justices with mercy.

“ I did it out of frustration; I promise not to steal again; please sir forgive me.’’ the convict pleaded.

Earlier, the prosecuting counsel, Mrs Ijeoma Ukagha, told the court that on Feb. 16, Mr Anthony Iyiegbuwe of NIA Quarters FHA Lugbe Abuja , reported the matter at the Lugbe Police Station.

Ukagha informed the court that the complainant employed Zalas on Jan. 18 as a security guard to secure his property and was paid N15, 000 as monthly salary.

She said that during police investigation the convict admitted to the crime.
