Secondus dabbles into Rivers PDP crisis, says Wike can’t crush anybody

By Tunde Opalana

The crisis rocking the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) got messier at the weekend as the former National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus described as empty threat statement by the state governor, Nyesom Wike that he will crush perceived opponents.

Members in the party are divided alongside stakeholders in the state which include Governor Wike and others such as, Austin Opara and Secondus.

Anti- Wike forces in the state are seen to be loyal to the Abubakar Atiku presidency, to which Wike is presently averse.

The crisis it was gathered has nose – dived to a level of alleged witch- hunting of pro- Atiku’s members of PDP by the state governor.

Secondus while reacting to Saturday’s statement by Wike in Port- Harcourt said the governor cannot crush anybody.

The former party boss in a statement by his media aide, Ike Abonyi said such threat is haughty and disdainful.

The statement read “the attention of the media office of the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus has been drawn to the haughty and and disdainful threat from Governor Neysom Wike that he will crush anybody who works with him in support of the PDP Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.

“The responses of Prince Secondus to the empty threat are simple, “Wike you cannot crush anybody, I cannot fight or join issues with you, only God can crush”.

“Prince Secondus also drew the attention of Governor Wike to the advisory of the great Nnamdi Azikiwe to public officers that ‘no condition is permanent’ and nobody can become Governor of a state or President of this country forever.”

Governor Wike of Rivers State on Saturday was said to have threatened to fight to finish anyone working with former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Uche Secondus, DailyTimesNGR gathered.

Secondus is a strong ally of presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar.

Wike issued the threat on Saturday at the flagging off ceremony of the construction of internal roads Omagwa, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The governor maintained he will “finish” anyone who pitches his tent with “enemies of the state”.

He said: “If anybody fights our system we will fight the person back.

“Let me tell you what you don’t understand in politics. The moment you claim to be working with us and tomorrow you shift to our enemy, we will take every might we have, we will even leave our enemy and finish you first.

“So all of you who are going back to Abuja to hold meetings with our enemies in the state, I’m going to finish you to the last.

“We removed a National Party Chairman who was not doing well. All of them were here, we all agreed, now they are going to Abuja to hold meetings with the man we removed, thinking that you will use that to fight us, we will crush them”.

However, one of the perceived antagonists of Wike in Rivers State, Hon. Chinyere Igwe, a member of the House of Representatives accused Wike of intimidation.

Igwe’s petrol station was listed by the state government as one of those engaging in illegal bunkering.

Reacting, Igwe told journalists at the weekend that “this is the station Gov Wike said is engaged in illegal bunkering activities for which he has declared me wanted.

“I have dared journalists, petroleum experts and civil society organizations to go and investigate for themselves to discover lies from the pit of hell.

“Power corrupts absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Rivers State is in danger as King Herod has descended on his people.”

Recall that Governor Wike has ordered the arrest of Igwe who is a cousin to Austin Opara, who is a supporter of the presidential candidate of PDP , Atiku Abubakar.

The lawmaker is said to be the owner of a filling station in Diobu, Port Harcourt, which was sealed off by security agents on Friday.

Wike alleged that the product from the filling station is sourced from illegal refineries popularly known as kpo-fire.

Wike said he had told the security agencies that, “if I hear anything that any filling station is involved in oil bunkering, I will close down that filling station and therefore I have directed the security agencies to know who has that filling station in Diobu and arrest that person and we are going to prosecute the person.

“It doesn’t matter how highly placed that person is. Some of you should be used to teach a lesson.

“Time has come, we cannot allow oil bunkering, we can’t.”

Igwe, who was speaking about the sealing of his filling station on Friday, had described the action of the security agencies as “politically motivated”.
