School of Politics, Policy and Governance Set to Graduate Class of 2025 in Abuja

The School of Politics, Policy and Governance (SPPG) will hold its Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2025 on October 4 at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, marking the culmination of a programme designed to equip students with leadership skills to shape Africa’s future.

This year’s graduation theme, “Embracing and Preparing Leaders of a New Global Order Where Africa Builds on Its Own Terms,” reflects SPPG’s mission to raise leaders who challenge poor governance and design people-centred policies rooted in accountability and values.

The two-day programme begins on October 3 with the traditional Citizens’ Solidarity Walk across key parts of Abuja, symbolising civic commitment. The official ceremony on October 4 will feature keynote speeches, awards, cultural performances, and the formal presentation of certificates.

The event will highlight achievements of the Class of 2025, including Capstone Project Awards, CoP Group Excellence Awards, the Dean’s Prize for Best Graduating Students, and the Benjamin and Cecilia Ujubuonu 21st Century Leadership Award, as well as the Life of Impact Award recognising transformative leadership.

Dr. Obiageli “Oby” Ezekwesili, Founder and Chair of SPPG and #FixPolitics, said the graduation reinforces the importance of homegrown governance models. “Africa cannot afford to outsource the design of its governance models. Our future must be anchored on values, accountability, and disruptive leadership,” she said.

Ms. Alero Ayida-Otobo, CEO of SPPG Africa, described the graduating class as embodying “character, competence, and capacity” to redefine leadership and governance on the continent. Dr. Abiola Akiyode, Dean of SPPG Nigeria, added that students have demonstrated practical problem-solving skills through their Capstone Projects.

The Graduation Ceremony runs alongside the Africa Conference 2025, hosted by #FixPolitics, which takes place October 2–3 and brings together reformers, citizens, and leaders from across Africa to discuss democratic governance and development challenges.

SPPG continues to develop Africa’s leadership pipeline at a time when citizens are demanding accountability, transparency, and governance rooted in the continent’s realities.
