Saturday Guber Election: NBC cautions Broadcaster’s over unathoriaed announcement
The Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has cautioned broadcasters in the country against unauthorized announcement during the Saturday, 9 March Governorship and States House of Assembly Election.
NBC laid down the warning on Friday in a press conference in Abuja by the Director General, Mallam Modibo Kawu who reminded broadcasters to abide by the rules and ethics of the broadcasting Act.
He said: “I wish to use this medium to remind broadcasters again of the provisions of the Broadcasting Code and the Electoral Act regarding announcement of Election results”.
He quoted sections 5, 2 and 15 of the NBC Act Code which stipulates that:
“A Broadcaster shall not use any vote obtained of different polling stations or any exit polls to project or speculate on the choice of the candidate”.
The statement further stated that the commission is therefore constrained to caution all broadcasters to adhere to the stated provisions in order to avoid stiff penalty and sanctions as stipulated by law adding that; “defaulters will be sanctioned in accordance with the law”.
